| HIV and
AIDS A prevalent notion is that gay men are the most susceptible victims of HIV and AIDS. However, unlike the society, these diseases don't tend to discriminate on the basis of the sexual orientation of a person. Both HIV and AIDS affect the heterosexual couples. Thus the women and children are known as much to suffer from the disease. In the case a pregnant woman happens to be suffering from the disease then chances are that the disease is going to be transmitted to the child as well. The babies will also contract the disease in case they are fed breast fed by the mother who happens to be HIV infected. What exactly are HIV and AIDS? AIDS is acquired immunodeficiency syndrome that happens to be caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). As the HIV virus grows the body loses the ability to fight the infections as HIV greatly reduces the immune system of the body by killing the White Blood Cells. The body then becomes quite prone to diseases such as pneumonia, herpes simplex, cytomegalovirus, and at times even rare cancer such as Kaposi's sarcoma. HIV can be contracted from entering of the body fluids such as blood, semen or vaginal fluid. Thus it is common to see drug users suffering from these diseases for using the shared needles for injecting the drug. However as far as the bodily fluids like semen and vaginal fluids, it is perfectly in the hands of the people to prevent the infection by having safe sex. It isn't unusual for couples to indulge in sexual acts without the use of any protection. However, when the stakes are high involving your own life in turn then it is quiet advisable to use some protection measure instead of getting afflicted with a disease that is as serious as AIDS. If you happen to meet a guy at a club and you want to get on with the act make sure you are carrying some type of protection like a condom with you. Although there are times when you might even put your date off by asking too many questions about his past partners, or he happens to have been tested for HIV or not. Don't be deterred by the discomfort as it's always your life and safety first. Also make sure that there should be no penetration without your partner wearing a condom as a little penetration would do as much harm as a full penetration. Make sure that you don't even take off the condoms using your hands, use a towel instead. Be extra cautious in case you have any cuts or abrasions on your body by not letting any sort of a body fluid come in contact with you. |
