| Gay Intimacy
Gay identity plays a major part in the formation of gay intimacy. The intimacy in a gay relationship is a bit similar to any heterosexual relationship. Gay intimacy is greatly affected by HIV infection as both the partners lose the sexual desire and the intimacy they once shared. Gay couples are more prone to problems relating to intimacy. The inferiority complex developed in gay individuals is due to lack of intimacy. In the beginning of a gay relationship, both the partners share an optimum level of intimacy that gradually decreases with the passage of time. The only way in which gay intimacy can be restored to a decent level is by improving their confidence level. While it seems to be a difficult process asking gays to boost up their self-esteem in a hostile environment, it is not impossible. No doubt, that the intimacy enjoyed by gay individuals is comparatively less than their heterosexual counterparts. In the absence of a caring partner, a typical gay individual might find himself in an old age home as he becomes more mature with the passage of time. Most of the gay relationships suffer from instability, simply because both the partners are not able to get along with the ever increasing expectations from one another. When these expectations are combined with the possibility of dangerous diseases like AIDS, intimacy suffers the most. Old age care centers seldom provide a lonely gay individual with the intimacy he once used to share with his partner. The only refuge he can avail is in the gay community that might not welcome him with the open arms. The scale of operations of the gay communities prevailing in a particular area also alters the intimacy level. For instance, if the gay community is large sized in a particular area, the level of intimacy a gay can enjoy would proportionately increase. Physical strength and beauty gains subsequent preference over old age and a mature gay might not be able to redeem emotional intimacy. Emotional intimacy has improved over the years as the gay community has evolved around the globe. It is therefore important in any gay relationship that both the partners get along with each other and understand their emotional and physical needs. Lack of understanding would hamper the intimacy they share amongst themselves. This would eventually be disadvantageous in the long run and needs to be avoided at any cost. After all, every individual seeks intimacy in his or her relationship, irrespective of whether he or she is straight or not. For more information read Man to Man: The Ultimate Guide to Gay Sex. |
